Balancing act… the journey of juggling wellbeing as a parent
Find a quiet place, grab your favourite snack, and let’s chat about the bumpy ride that is parenting and wellbeing, especially for those of us who are parenting rockstars dealing with extra challenges.
I’m here to spill the beans on the Behaviour Support Hub’s Wellbeing Programme, a dazzling 4-week, a 2-hour escape where you’re not just ‘mam’ or ‘dad,’ and the main focus is ‘you’. A programme that offers empowerment, confidence, and resilience, all with a sprinkle of humour and a lot of heart.
Parenting superheroes unite. We’re all in on the unspoken pact, putting our kids first is our daily mantra. As superhero additional needs parents, we juggle a few more balls in the air. Exhausting? Absolutely! So, let’s all take a moment and collectively put our imaginary juggling balls away – we deserve it!
Shining a spotlight on mental health and a dash of craftiness. Sessions seek to spotlight parental mental health, something we all know is as tricky to find as the missing sock that vanished into the laundry black hole. But don’t fret! The Wellbeing Programme has it all – from parent-led respite activities to counselling sessions.
Crafty workshops because who doesn’t love a glitter explosion? Craft activities are on the agenda because, let’s be honest, nothing says, “I’m an adult,” quite like having a strong opinion on glitter choices and mastering the art of not burning yourself with hot glue. My recent crafting adventure involved creating a Christmas wreath masterpiece – not only did it add pizzazz to my front door, but it also added a splash of joy to my day.
Meet the facilitators; the Behaviour Support Hub parent cheerleaders. All sessions are led by fully trained facilitators. The team aren’t just pros; they’re like the cheerleaders of parenthood – offering support, understanding, and maybe even a few circus tricks to lighten the load.
Supporting my wellbeing, a peek into my circus act. Amid the daily whirlwind, I’ve discovered a little peace through regular walks. It’s like my daily escape into a world where stress takes a back seat to the soothing rhythm of my steps and the beats in my ears. I sometimes declare war on my smartphone notifications! Sometimes I hide from the constant ding of alerts, pretending my phone is on a tropical vacation without me. Friendship is my fuel because laughter is the best therapy. Catching up with my friends is like my secret weapon against the craziness of daily life. Our get-togethers turn into laughter therapy sessions where we swap parenting tales, trade survival hacks, and, every now and then, ponder the genius of hiding in the loo for a brief moment of quiet time.
Add some laughter to your circus act. So, there you have it, the Behaviour Support Hub’s Wellbeing Programme is not just a programme; it’s a friendly circus, laughter-infused and designed for the unsung heroes of parenting. Come and join in, because if parenting is a circus, this is the act where we all juggle our way to a standing ovation!
