Early bird teen life programme
A programme to empower parent carers and supporting professionals to understand more about how autism is experienced by autistic teenagers. Designed for parent carers of young people aged 10 to 16 years for whom a formal diagnosis of autism is necessary.
Sessions emphasise the importance of autistic perspectives, with a variety of videos and quotes used throughout the sessions. Bringing participants together to share information, experiences and ideas in a structured way.
We offer a 6-week programme and sessions will last approximately 2.5 hours.
Programmes are run for up to six families at a time. Each family is allocated three, two for parent carers and one for an accompanying professional.
Early Bird Teen Life, the following topics are covered:
- Understanding autism in teenagers
- Women and girls, self-esteem
- Spending time with other people
- Stress and anxiety
- Behaviour
- Puberty
- Independence skills
- Education strategies
- Planning for the future
All programme sessions will be delivered by fully trained facilitators.
